The clutch is working! (kinda, sorta). Whew! What a struggle this has been. I manage to boil, bend, and cool the nylon tubing into a shape that allowed me to hook up both ends. This stuff sure wants to remain in the shape it came in. Next, I enlarged the master cylinder mounting holes in the firewal...

http://www.tiresmoke.org/walt/helmet001.jpg  OK, now after considerable online research, I have a better understanding of the enemy. The tubing is 5/16 OD PA12 polyamide (nylon). It responds to molding by emersion in boiling water so now I should be able to shape the sucker to my needs. The h...

OK, guys, I could use some help on a sticky problem here at swap central. My stock 1988 Ford truck hydraulic clutch setup needs a hydraulic line between the master and slave cylinders. I have the stock plastic formed tubing (that fits an '88 Ford truck), but it has all the wrong bends and won't work...

OK, so Fred's got me two to one. BUT, I had the spreadbore FIRST and he escalated!

Actually, Andy, I believe I was the only one to have a Holley spreadbore back in those days. I'm sure Fred will correct me if I'm wrong. And... as to Fords using spreadbores...it is a little known fact that the 429 Cobra Jet motors of 1970-71 ran 715 cfm GM QuadraJets. It was Ford's "better ide...

I spend a few hours this morning finishing the rebuild of my Holley 6210 spreadbore. The inclusion of this carb adds a bit more history to this project. I bought this carb in the early '70s to replace the quad-jet on my '67 Nova SS. I'm really glad to be able to use it on the 460. I chose the Edelbr...

I just wanted to see if anyone was paying attention! Good job, Fred. I should have know you would be watching with your eagle eye. To continue... As much as I didn't want to do it, I believe I'll elongate the mounting holes and move the master cylinder on the firewall. Once I get everything lined up...

OK, here's my first update since Fred left. I'm working on converting the mechanical clutch to a hydraulic clutch. I had a custom lever made to match the mounting position of the master cylinder on the firewall. Well, the match made in heaven turned out to be a bit off. So I did some creative modifi...

Day 5: Fred's last day was a marathon wrenching day. We started before 8 AM and turned the lights out at 11 PM. It was also a very satisfying day. The first thing we did was pull the 460 again to gain access to the engine mounts. http://www.tiresmoke.org/walt/day5-wo-007.jpg Our task was to move all...

Day 4: Another up and down day! First we wanted to establish the final resting place for the 460. To do this we had to have a radiator and fan shroud to make sure the fan would center in the shroud. Since Walt had sent the radiator out for refurbishment, we had to retrieve it. Well, the new four-cor...

Day 3: Ups and downs... We installed the new flywheel, clutch components, bolted on the transmission (ZF S5-42) and lost the slave cylinder. Yep! I couldn't find it when we needed it. We called Paul to see if we could get it cheap, but the price had almost doubled since we first bought it. Oh, well,...

Day 2: This does sound like OverHaulin' doesn't it? Well, we started out with the objective of noodlin' out the hydraulic clutch. We decided to visit Mikes Auto Salvage to get some clutch stuff out of a couple of trucks he had. We brought back a shift handle, pedals, wiring harness, speedo cable, an...

Tim knapp's 460 swap into Walt's '69 F250

Day 1: Fred's plane arrived at 1pm sharp and we were at work at 2pm. The old 360 FE motor was out by 3:30pm. We had to remove the old tranny before we could pull the motor. Ugh was it heavy!! The new motor mounts look like a bolt-in...no holes to drill in the frame. Instead of a thousand words, we a...
