Re: 1990 Corvette Z51

Found #5 plug wire arcing to the header through a seemingly intact boot. Grabbed a spare wire and its running much better again, woohoo!!

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51

Worked on the Corvette again today and made some progress. Speece came over to help and we knocked out a few things. *) internal plenum bolts replaced with low-profile button head bolts with a dab of blue loctite. *) removed exhaust, found converter was already gutted, which saved a bunch of work. I...

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51

Test drive complete, but the problem remains. I eyeballed the fuel filter when it was up in the air last night and it looked relatively shiny/new-ish, but found no reference to it in this thread, so I guess I've never changed it. I'll order a new fuel filter. I also ordered a fuel pressure test kit....

Re: 1979 Malibu

I readjusted the bracket for the max clearance I could get on the crank sensor. I forget the measurement, I did that several weeks ago. A dedicated USB cable has been put in the car. I got the trans-cooler fan all wired up. I got the boost controller all plumbed in and verified the solenoid works. I...

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51

Remains to be seen. I still think there was some shit in there. But now, there isn't!

I'm excited to take it for a test drive this week.

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51

Lots of progress today. It even fired it up! I ended up tapping the runners and drilling the plenum and it turned out being way easier than I thought. The holes didnt need to be drilled out any bigger. I used a 5/16-24 tap. Dave Speece came over and gave me a little trick for getting the tap started...

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51

Ehh, for me, probably nothing. Hopefully I don't need another set! But they'd be in their system if someone needed them.

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51

I picked up my injectors and got started on the re-assembly process over the weekend. I got all the old gasket surfaces scraped and otherwise ready. The o-rings in the fuel rail feed & return lines look due for replacement, gotta dig up replacements. I cut the 1/4-28 screws into 4 studs and thre...

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51

Injector guy texted me this morning and said mine were ready. I asked if they were bad, and he said "no, not really." Hmm.. really makes me scratch my head why the car was running so poorly before I took it apart for this job. At least these will no longer be a question mark. Pretty sure I...

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51

I picked up a gasket set for the SuperRam at Summit last weekend. I also picked up some long 1/4-28 screws that I can cut into studs. Of the 16 bolts, only 4 are really tough. Some people make studs for those 4, which is supposed to help out a little bit. I got the injectors dropped off to Cleveland...

The SuperRam is a stupid intake

The injectors are finally out, but wow, what an effort to do so. This is such a trivially easy job on almost any other Chevy EFI intake I've played with -- my StealthRam, a 4-bbl single-plane EFI, Ramjet. But on the SuperRam, it is a several hour job. Actually, of those 16 bolts from the bottom, onl...

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51

I drove the car again this today and this misfire was even worse, especially in the beginning. Whatever the Techron knocked loose, I think they need to come out for a real cleaning. I've never really had to clean injectors like this before, and boy did I pick a doosey to start with. The Accel SuperR...

That thing looks super nice, cant wait to see it in person! I loved the '72 I had in the pre-Tiresmoke era.

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51

I've been driving the Vette a bit the past couple of weeks, even going to work a few times. The dash is still kinda glitchy and is very annoying. The backlight behind the digital speedo flickers constantly. The tach needle is still somewhat bouncy, although its still way better than before I had it ...
