Re: 1999 Z/28

Based on that write-up on lifting the body off the motor, this will all have to be done outside (sans A/C). My garage ceiling is not high enough. Anyway the next hurdle is to find out how much it will cost in both time and effort to get the frame and unibody straightened to my satisfaction. If that ...

Re: 2004 GTO

GM, the GTO came with a K&N cold air package and Corsa cat-backs so I am already ahead of the game. The rest will come as time and money permits.

Re: 1999 Z/28

Maverick just sent me this link: http://www.michiganspeed.com/enginepull/index.html
It validates my thoughts on replacing the cradle. Plus it looks like it would make it really easy to replace the struts and control arms with the whole assembly out of the car.

This could be a lot of fun!

Re: 1999 Z/28

I think I've discovered something that could change my mind about fixing the Z28. I see LS1 engine cradles on sale on ebay and examining the pictures, it looks like the cradle provides the mounting points for the front suspension (lower control arms). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/98-02-Pontiac-Tra...

Do the doors fit? Is the roof buckled?
Doors fit and operate perfectly. Roof was unaffected.

Re: 2004 GTO

welcome home, Fred. We drove the Goat down here to the beach and it was a fine ride...smooth, comfortable, quiet (except for a pleasant but unobtrusive rumble) with the potential of nice power on tap (if needed).

Autopsy Part II

The Camaro has now moved under its own power. I was able to back it up about 30 feet onto the concrete driveway. There is no steering it though. Apparently the power steering reservoir was ruptured in the crash and all the fluid has run out. There is also some interference in the steering components...

Autopsy started

I took a couple of hours tonight and puttered with the Camaro. I didn't need to use a sawzall. I was able to unbolt the remainder of the left fender and then remove the inner fender. The wheel came right off after that. Then I picked at some of the broken stuff on the left front and put as much as p...

Re: 2004 GTO

I did my first tinkering on the Goat today. The front wheels had an intermittent wobble when slowing down. It didn't really feel like the stuttering you get with warped rotors, but I decided to get the rotors resurfaced anyway and start from there. The first problem was removing the rotors from the ...

Hey, Johnny, I know where there is a good runnin' LS1 with 317 HP just waiting for someone to make use of it.

Re: 1999 Z/28

Which brings to mind the fact that the troopers appeared almost instantly after the wreck. I asked them how they got there so fast and they said they were already there tending to a previous accident. Their presence could have been a factor in distracting the young lady who turned in front of me. Yo...

Re: 1999 Z/28

Just to clarify a little, the cover of the right side airbag is actually pretty heavy and is tethered on it's windshield edge with a strip of material. When the airbag deploys, it flips the cover up and slaps the windshield producing the damage. When we got out of the car after the accident and I sa...

Wreck after Spring Carlisle

After a great weekend at Carlisle, Jim and I were 25 miles from home when a 16 year old girl pulled into my path and caused a violent accident. No injuries were sustained because the airbags did their job well. Her insurance paid for a week in a rental car and then totaled my Camaro. I was given a r...

What's the shiny grease-looking brownish blackish stuff on the exhaust pipe from the weld on back? It is also on the rear of your traction bar.

Re: 2004 GTO

Dave, By my seat of the pants, the GTO feels heavier and slower. I want to get it over to the dyno soon to see how they compare at the rear wheels. BP stated that the GTO is 300 lbs heavier. and it feels that way. On the other hand, it is a lot more comfortable than the Z/28. When I get a chance, I'...
