NHRA @ National Trail (Columbus) May 18-21, 2006

I heard on the radio the other day that the NHRA will be at National Trail in Columbus May 18-21.

I'm going for sure. My only decision will be whether to go just one or both days.

Well, progress was made today. The gas tank is re-installed, 100% ready to go. I haven't poured any fuel in it yet, but I'm confident there will be no leaks. Everything is plumbed & clamped & tightened. The sump doesn't look too bad. I painted everything flat-black. I just hope it works well...

Wow, another month has almost passed and it's still not done.. The engine is assembled and waiting to go back in. I got the gas tank back with its new sump welded in and painted black. I pressure washed out the engine compartment and bought some new power steering hoses to replace the cruddy old one...

I have a used rocker cover that I cut specially for adjusting the valvetrain with the engine running (and to prevent as much mess as possible). If you have stock rockers, I also have the clips that go over the end with the oil hole to keep them from squirting all over the place. You're welcome to us...

Cutting up some POS ricer is always funny, especially when you use a curb to get the front air-dam off.

Locked & loaded. Does it have speed rated tires? Not that we would need them of course. I don't know. I haven't been stopped for speeding with them, yet. CD player? I have the new Nickelback. Not sure if it will be allowed since they have a Ford on the CD case cover and a Chrysler on the back. ...

The blown Pontiac has new brakes, fresh oil, a re-juvenated K&N (yeah, K&N) air filter, and a coat of Rain-X. Locked & loaded.

You mention 'deciding whether I need to wash the Vette' -- are you considering bringing the truck to Carlisle??

I think your diagnosis of a stuck valve/lifter is reasonable. I had problems with that when I first put my engine together back in '01. Once you get it running and get it up to temp, try re-adjusting all valves with the engine running. You used the same cam, so it seems unlikely you wiped a cam lobe...

Wow, been a long time since I posted and almost no additional work has been done, other than to flush out the gas tank. I need to rethink my priorities!

With good traction and a good stall converter 400 rear wheel HP should take you into the low 12's easy. IIRC Tiresmoker was making a little over 300 at the wheels and I am pretty sure he was running 12.80's or 90's at the time. I would guess you have a good chance to make 11's on that HP if you can...
