2003 Accord

Post by ttamrettus »

Not sure this qualifies as a project but here goes. 2003 Accord V6 automatic 168,000 miles.
I get a call saying the car revs but doesn't go anywhere.
So I go trade vehicles and wait for AAA. The next day the dealership tells me it's a transmission and they want $3700 to fix it. I say I'm gonna shop around. I have a friend here who owns a shop. His quote is $3400. I call Mr. Transmission, $799 to rebuild it. I say okay. Have it towed there. So far -$112 for diagnostics at Honda dealership. Next day Mr Transmission calls up and says trans has no line pressure and needs full rebuild. I say ok, take it apart and let me know what it needs. Next day he calls, says ok. $2700. I say what? He says $799 is labor not parts. Okay whatever. So I ask about timing belt since it's about time anyway (1st one was at $90k). Well you have to do the water pump whenever you do a timing belt. Grand total out the door $3100.
3yr/36k mile transmission, 1yr/12k timing belt and water pump warranty, 3 coupons for trans oil changes (1 per year) and an oil change. I guess it's not bad since the timing belt is an $800 job at the dealership. Anyway the Honda should be good for another 100k miles now. The kbb on the car is $6500, I couldn't replace it for $3100 so I had it fixed.

Hopefully for the money he just invested it turns the wheels instead of staying stationary in the driveway.
