2005 Silverado 1500 Extended Cab 4X4
My newest family member. The 2000 Ranger with 100,000 miles on it has been replaced with this 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4X4.
We'll be ready to head for those casinos this winter. There are some nice features, not to mention only 16,500 miles.
It has the 5.3 liter with 310 hp and a 3.45 axle. rated 14 city/19 highway, the exact same rating that the old Ranger had.
It drives easier and rides nicer than the old truck.
Love driving it. Really looking forward to the All Truck Nationals at Carlisle.

This is a nice truck with all the right options (but not too much, it's still a truck). On the way to the dealer I was driving my wife's Saturn and Fred was driving the Ranger, and the Saturn was too much for the Ranger to handle. On the way from the dealer, the Saturn couldn't hang with the big Chevy, even on the freeway. A noticable improvement in ride, performance, and size, without giving up any mileage is awesome. Not to mention the LOW miles.
This is a real nice ride!

Thanks to BasementPaul we went right to the Used Car Manager, the good news was I got this truck for wholesale,
the bad news was I only received wholesale money for the Ranger. In the final analysis, this was a serious bargin
(even GM Certified warranty) without all the usual badgering "do the deal" salesfolks.

2005 Silverado
Nice truck.
I'll bet you got one hellofa deal too.
The AV had a wonderful ride. Different rear suspension though... None the less, it's a nice truck.
BTW, I liked the Ranger too!

More Pictures
OK! More pictures with a look at 310 HP, and the HP don't stand for no computer.
I looked on the "DragTimes" web site and this truck seems to run in the mid to upper 16's et, in the low to mid 80's mph.

Gas Mileage
Gas mileage rating has this truck 15 City, 19 Highway. On Monday 8/11/08, I have 1,186 miles on this truck since I started keeping track and have averaged 18.17. 734 miles was to and from Carlisle with the driving around there and some at home after I arrived. Going to Carlisle and driving around there (300 miles highway, 58 miles Carlisle) without too much outside influence, the Silverado averaged 19.47/gal. Going home (w/BasementPaul's S10 & GMJohn's Turbo Regal as part of a three car caravan traveling a little faster and a little playing) and some around town driving netteg 18.5. For the entire trip the Silverado returned exactly 19 mpg. Never got these numbers with the 2000 Ranger 4x4. We'll see what happens this winter, so far so good.

What do you know about what was done? My SS has the same engine and could benefit from it also? Maybe a separate thread is in order.Noisy Cricket wrote:There's someone out here (far west side) who eked close to 30mpg from his GenIII truck with some tuning tweaks. Nothing emissions legal, unfortunately (lean mixtures make the converter "go to sleep") but 30mpg!
