1987 BMW 325iC - white / tan

Post by xelarettus »

1987 BMW 325i convertible
Purchased from Dan Ridgeway.
The was running and driving, PLUS it had a full tank of gas.
Odometer broken at 164,555 miles.
The car is NOT perfect but at the price a great purchase.
Issues will be addressed in follow up posts.

first up was the drivers door retaining mechanism.
without this the door is free to open into the drivers fender.
the mechanism was inside the door itself.
also lubed up the window tracks.
we discovered why it was disconnected, the mount that is spot welded to the body has broken welds.
every time you open the door it "pops" since the mount is loose.
the pretty cool thing is the previous technician left some notes on the moisture barrier.

The car has a moderate shimmy all the time.
From what I can tell the passenger side Control Arm Bushing is bad.
We are going to replace the entire lower control arm and bushing lollipop on both sides.
Also the swap bar end links.
All the boots are shot and it's likely time.

the car has shudder in what feels like the rear end when you take off from a start.
Maybe a U joint ? Or diff bushing ?
I am not sure what it is but we are going to rebuild the front first.

What are you planning to do with this car? Drive it daily?

Also what engine is in it? Can't recall if that year came with the M25
[quote="Basement Paul"]Is that a mint rocketship on the hood??

I believe it is an M20.
The 04 has transmission issues and will likely be down for a while.
So daily driven for a bit, regular maintenance and small mods.

its hard to tell but also in the e30m stash was a set of euro grill.
we'll need to source another euro set for when the e30m is roadworthy again.

Today I replaced both front control arm lollipops, the transmission mounts and added a front skid plate to protect the oil pan.
Also added the missing engine bay weatherstripping.

Those are all worthwhile upgrades to make that a daily driver. Especially the skid plate. That thing is LOW.

Alex, have YOU driven it yet?

Put film over the high beams. Testing out the “French” look.
