Air Compressor Repair

Post by Maverick »

A couple of weeks ago my Harbor Freight, single stage, two piston, 60 gal, 3.5HP, refurbished (used), upright air compressor quit pumping. Motor seems fine, belt not slipping, just wouldn't pump up and max it would do was declining. Found an online source for parts. New pump: $250. New valve kit: $50.

Pulled the head and the valve assembly under the head was toast. Looks like it overheated big time.

The new valve kit came today and, where the old one was in pieces, the new one was all together in one piece. Put it on and, presto change, its working again.

Also replaced the filter with a new one since some of the plastic housing had also been overheated.

I wonder if it overheated because the intake filter was clogged?? Probably should check those things once in a while.

I expect the compressor will be good for as long as I need it and longer.
