2006 Cadillac STS-V

Post by Fred32v »

The STS-V when to Hutter’s Performance so Trevor could give it a tune.
The process started at 8am sharp, 45 minute to tie the V down, hook up the connections,
and down load the STS-V software. Another 75 minutes working the HP on the bench
before Trevor got into the car. Two and a half hours and 15 pulls later he removed it
from the dyno and spent another hour and a half driving and adjusting shift point, etc..
Unfortunately, even with two memory cards, I was not able to capture all the runs, so
I posted the first warm up run and one of the last ones.

Here are two charts,
stock tune in 4th gear 370 rwhp, stock tune in 3rd 355, tuned in 3rd 366 rwhp.

stock tune in 4th...pre tune 355 & tuned 366

The results

All tuning was done in 3rd gear to reduce the abuse,
small increase in hp, approximately 355 to 366.
It feels different; I’ll run it at the first possible moment. :)

Hey Fred. It looks like Hutters worked long and hard for that 15 hp. Those Caddy engineers must have done a good job with the car right out of the showroom. We out here in the studio audience just can't wait to find out how that translates into numbers at the track.

Sept 25, 2010 this post also found in "Cars Shows and Swap Meets" Index
The question was “How much would the Hutter Tune Help?” Well we rushed to TRP to make some passes. The first thing that was great is the car will now do a burnout. Nothing like rubber on your quarters to say you’re a real racer. (The new batteries that I just got for my Fuji went dead early so I don’t have any of the exciting things that happened later.) It was a day of lows, then highs, then lows then the ultimate high. Here is a video of my very first pass, the shift points were too high and would hit the rev limiter, that went on for several passes, but I called Trevor at Hutter’s, he said he was planning to come out and would be there soon. Well he sent Dusty ahead with the computer and he did a quick download, which fixed the problem for one pass then it returned. By then Trevor arrived, he made one last change and I made three more great passes after that, including my very best ever.

Item……..…Before………...After
60’……..…..1.9015 ……….1.8318
1/8 et………8.4682…….….8.2417
1/8 mph…..86.52………....84.40
¼ et…….…13.0796…….…12.8397
¼ mph…...106.298…..….110.28

Along with the new numbers, I went four rounds in the Gamblers Race,
finish in third place and it paid me $10 on $5 entry into the race.
Always fun at TRP, just sometimes it’s even more Fun!!!

Re: 2006 Cadillac STS-V at Dragway 42

Post by Fred32v »

I took a solo trip to Dragway 42 today. It was not as cold as I would have liked,
48-50 degrees and there was a serious headwind all day, I'd guess at least 15mph.
I did manage to inprove my best ET to 12.7858 seconds. and that was at only 108 mph.
I did have two passes at 110. For you 1/8th mile folks, I had my best et of 8.21 seconds.

Image

Anytime you can lower your ET and/or improve your mph, that's a good day.
As always, going to the drags is great fun!!!

Nice. Just a preview of where you are going in the colder air next month.

I was fixing a furnace. a garage door, and a Camaro. I also participated in pumpkin carving and Monopoly. Maybe next time.

The runs are made in the sport mode of drive with the traction control off.
All the tunung was done in the sport mode and the manual mode.
When I put the car in drive everything goes back to the way it was,
that is, over 20 mpg on the way to the casinos. :)

Kinda neat to have the best of both worlds. We can't wait to see how far the et's will drop with the colder air in a couple of weeks.

BP and I were at TRP very early this Nov. 20, 2010 morning.
The Announcer said that the track has been preped for great traction,
the temperature is cold (46 degrees),
and there is a 10-15 knot tailwind, so there should be some record lower et's.

Image

WOW! Was he ever right. BP was a missed gear change away from his best in his Saturn,
but he still managed a 15.60 @ 88.95.
I was able to back up my best with a 12.50@112.
I believe I have a better time slip than Mostmint, BP, or GMJohnny.
TRP is always fun, some days it's just alot more satisfying!!! :D

OK, I didn’t do a cam change or headers or anything exciting this week,
but I did have a serious bonding session with the “V”.
I can’t remember the last time I polished inner fenders.

Before/After.....……………………………....inner fender…………………………..Result………………….......…………Rear

Leather/mats……………………......…….with the pine tree……………….......469 Hp………………………....…..checking

Most of this detailing effort was good fun, but do I hate doing interior windows. :D

Fred, you are brilliant! That's what I need to do with my TBSS! Doesn't cost a cent and will make it run better than ever. What a sense of accomplishment and bonding! Hmmm....never thought to polish the insides of my wheels.
