Kings Towing?? Did you happen to catch Fade during the half hour he wasn't working?

Kings is 5 minutes from my house... I figured I'd get a better price from someone closer.

I talked to the tranny shop today and it turns out they were driving in last Friday... no big deal. He said the front pump was toast because the spacing was off. The torque converter was too far out of the pump and it tore it up. What sucks about that, is I did EVERYTHING by the book as far as the bell housing, flex plate, and converter go. They made some spacers up and put some hardened bolts in there, and he says it's good to go. It didn't sound like the money man was there to get my bill together though, so I won't know the damage until tomorrow. The good thing is that my new converter is still good.

On another note, the INSANELY loud noise is still there according to Steve at the tranny shop. He says it's coming from the rearend and I believe him because that's a "new" piece that was used and an unknown entity. He has 9" experience so he's going to get me a quote to redo all the bearings in the rearend too. If he comes in around $500, I'm just going to have them do it too.

More info to come...

I called the tranny shop on my way home tonight. He said he left a message earlier in the week, but I never got it. Either way, the tranny is done and the damage was only a little over $700. Pretty fair I thought. He thought the rest of the trans was pretty solid and built pretty well. While it's there I'm going to have them address the rear end noise. If it doesn't need new gears, he's talking another $600 or so to pull it apart, re-bearing the whole thing, weld my rear axle tube hole, and put it back together. If it needs gears, that's probably another $200 or so, but I think the gears looked OK. We'll see next week.

Yesterday was a decent day, weather-wise, and after going in to work early to acquire some free shelving, I made my way toward Middlefield via Munson to pick up 32V and ultimately, my Mustang.

The car now has a new front tranny pump, and the correct spacing to keep the problem from occurring again. It shifts well again and he told me the tranny and converter were still all good. It also has basically a new rearend. New axle bearings, all new bearings in the carrier, new 3.70 gears, and a new pinion yoke. We drove it home without incident, and the car seems to be running pretty well. It's filthy as the tranny shop has a dirt driveway, and I hit a few puddles from melting snow on the way home, so today I'm going to clean it all up and get ready to finish the few smaller things I need to be ready for cruising and the track.

The list that I can think of:

replace windshield
replace door and trunk weather seals
install new lower radiator hose
redo fuel line from pump to carb
and eventually find true zero on the balancer so I can time this thing correctly

Sounds very good, BP....and you don't have too much left to do at this point. With decent weather right around the corner, the timing of this worked out pretty well.

Sorry I had to duck out after dinner last night. I didn't leave the office 'til 12:30 a.m. Took the dogs for a decent walk when I got home, though.

The melting snow/warming weather always makes tax season a little more bearable....for there is light...and warmth....and Chevelles....at the end of the tunnel.

Today I pulled the Mustang out and got it washed up. Unfortunately, there's a drop under the rearend, and two different tranny leaks. So back to the tranny shop it will go... eventually. I'm going to call him tomorrow and let him know there's a problem. Then, as if to kick me in the nuts a little more, after I washed it, it wouldn't start. It just needed a jump, but c'mon man, give me an effing break!

I hate this car and can't wait until it's right enough to sell. I've literally received no joy whatsoever from this POS, I don't have the time to be fixing it anymore, let alone taking it back to the place that just fixed it, and I really think it's cursed. Once it's close enough to being right, I'm going to sell it, take my beating, and move on. Lesson learned.

Sorry to hear about how you feel about the mustang. That is how I felt about that truck.

If you don't love a project, its time to move on. That happened to me with my two trucks. Just didn't enjoy driving them. Letting them go was the right thing to do. And, its fun to have a new project. With 50+ vehicles in your past you're in a good position to pick the next one. Enjoy!!

The sad thing is that the driving part seems OK, but it's so broken all the time that I don't think I'll ever really get to drive it. Not to mention I could really use a real truck for my business, so I think once I sell the Mustang, I'll buy a flatbed and focus on making my S-10 faster. That's a much better base to start with, and I believe a cam, gears, good tune, and converter should get me well into the low 13's without any problems. That's good enough. And now the S-10 is getting old enough that I get a lot of nice comments on how clean and cool it is. A lumpy cam and 100mph quarter will be even cooler.

Yesterday I buffed the car out and got a nice coat of wax on it. I also replaced the trunk and door seals. The doors will barely close now because of the new seals being so thick. I'll leave them closed for awhile and if the seals don't collapse, I'll have to readjust the doors so they'll close easier.

The car does look really good, if I do say so myself. I also drove it around my development a couple times, but not on the main road as they are still a little sloppy and the car is SPOTLESS. I'll post some better pictures this week. This is the closest thing to a selfie you'll see from me.

Friday after work I rushed home and jumped in the old Mustang and took it back to the tranny shop to get the leaks repaired. It was a nice, dry day but a little chilly. I only really got one chance to get on it really well and it really feels pretty strong. I can't wait to get it back and hopefully get it to the track in April for some numbers before I put it up for sale.
I don't expect it to be a super fast seller, but you never know...

Hopefully they'll get it done some time this week.

I called today and they haven't touched my car... Since I wasn't talking to the owner, I politely told them I'd like it back next week sometime. He told me they've been slammed. The more I thought about that statement, the more upset I got. I already paid to have mine done.
I'm going to call after work next Wed, and if they still haven't touched it, I'm going to seriously express how I feel about the situation.

"Slammed" before or after you took it in? If before, they could have predicted when yours would be done. New work should go behind yours. No excuse there.

I got suckered by an AMMCO shop. '77 Chevy with metric transmission started acting up. Took it in for the "free inspection", which led to a need to inspect further for a small fee. Then the news that it was apart, needed rebuild for an outrageous price, or they could reassemble with no guarantee that it would work at all. They had me hooked. Never again.
