TRP May 9th, 2018

Post by Fred32v »

First Wednesday night of the year. BP wanted to see what his Golf would do.
He just drove it there with no preparation except not too much gas.
I also just drove out there with no prep, had 1/3 of a tank of regular GAS.
Temperature was 80 degrees, with strong cross wind.
My 1st pass was my best of the day, 15.12 @ 90.34 mph.
2nd pass was against BP's VW Golf. Vehicles were incredibly close,
but his .02 vs my .14 gave the Golf the hole shot win.
I was in Truck class, out in the second round, my reaction .26 vs .10.
The VW Golf was in the huge Front Drive class.
Another great result.

I'm not sure what the Golf's absolute best was for the night, I believe mph was better than mine.
I'm thinking he had to go 5 rounds for the win. Pulled a King for a "Bye" into the finals.
Double breakout win, super tight. (It doesn't matter what he is sitting in, he brings it home.)

As always, TRP is great fun!!!

The heads up race with the Z71 was real fun. We were looking at each other laughing as we were sooo close. I had a little more top end. My best et of the night was in the finals where I was dialed in 15.24 and ran a 15.22 at 92.6mph with a light tap of the brakes just at the stripe. I'm guessing it wouldn't have been better than a 15.2 flat out. I was .02 under but the Civic ran a 15.29 on a 15.35 dial, so I was gold. It was a five round win with the bye in the semi-finals. I was on the brakes on every pass except the first round where an early redlight for the competition gave me a free run, which was good because I learned that if you brake torque it for too long, it cuts your throttle and takes it down to almost idle. After learning that, I had to change by staging technique. Electronic nannies...

I'm more than happy with the performance of this thing. The magazines say they run a 15.7-8 quarter, so I'm more than happy really. Even though it was the quietest night racing I've ever had, I wasn't embarrassed by slowness. I'm sure that a carefully timed cold day, with the spare tire removed, and premium gas, would get me well into the 14's. Needless to say, I won't be putting a chip or any other performance goodies on it to make it faster. I'll probably find a K&N drop in filter before the cold weather and that'll be it. I may have to call out GM Johnny and his Regal...

Perhaps it is time to see what the Regal can do.
