New Lifters for $80
Soaked the lifters for a day in 50:50 mix of ATF and acetone then tried to disassemble and clean them up. The first piston came out OK but the other piece with spring and check ball wouldn't budge. A lot of hard carbon deposits. So, bit the bullet and ordered new roller lifters from Summit. $100 min...

I feel the CfC program should require you buy an AMERICAN car. I'm don't wana start an argument about Hondas and Toyotas being built here in the states by American workers, its the profit from those Hondas and Toyotas, going back to Japan, that I have an issue with. :x YEAH!! If the government were...

Perfectly good logic - but there is precious little logic in government. If there was they would force the big trucks to convert to natural gas or electricity. They travel alot more miles and burn much more fuel. It would be much easier to target pollution there than in cars that average 12000 mile...

Less Expensive Lifters
I was looking for some used lifters 'cause I was seeing replacements listing for $200-$250. But, Summit has a set for $100. I have the old ones soaking in a 50:50 mix of ATF and acetone. If I can get these freed up I'll use them. Otherwise, I'll spring for the Summit lifters. Thanks for the suggesti...

Stuck Lifters
Forgot to mention the (hydraulic, roller) lifters. The "head" guy in the machine shop showed us how to compress the lifters in a vice and squeeze the old oil out. Only problem: lifter would NOT compress. Tried another and it did but only with a lot of pressure in a BIG vise. Checked on the...

Back home after 5 weeks in Michigan. Had a good time but time would have been just as good with one or two less weeks. Decided to take the HO (?) down a little farther. Stipped everything out of the block and heads (w/WXO help). Learned the differences between an HO and non-HO motor. Its all in the ...

We would expect Willy to post progress on his project as it progresses. Sounds like a fun thing. Needing pictures. Hi Fred, That would be good but not likely. I seldom get pictures of his projects. He's thinking of moving the body back and lowering it over the frame. I'll let you know when I get an...

Jim, the 3800 engines and the 60-degree V6s 2.8/3.1/3.4 etc) share the same bellhousing bolt pattern. The only place the 3800 engine was used in RWD was the 4th gen F-bodies. http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/-1045559-singlepost13.html http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/general-turbo-buick-tech/257876-...

GM 3.8 V6 Interchange?
Got a question I'm trying to answer for my brother. Hoping someone has the answer. Bro Willy is planning to build a hot rod starting with a Toyota pickup and a fwd 3.8 Olds engine. Can anyone tell us if a fwd 3.8 block will bolt up to a rwd 3.8 tranny, e.g. from an S10? He has some good fwd Olds 3.8...
I've been reading on the Maverick Forum that coolant should be kept full to prevent any air/coolant contact. Never thought of that as a problem, but maybe that's an issue with DEXCOOL? Also, I know you are aware, but maybe others might not be, so it might be worth a mention here. Mixing even a small...
