1978 Corvette
My old neighbor has a 1978 Corvette that was stored for many years. The car reportedly has under 8,000 miles on it. It’s really clean and they’ve had a garage replace all of the hoses, rubber brake lines, etc. and that wasn’t an inexpensive proposition. The only real issue is that mice got into it a...

Original Carb Rebuild
41,385… Well, it literally took a year for the second phase of carb rebuilding to come to a close. About three weeks ago, I took a Saturday morning and rebuilt the original carb. I had about three hours of my time in the rebuild, which included resetting the float height and drop, both of which were...

Transmission Fluid Change
54,123…. The manual calls for a routine trans fluid change every 70,000 miles. I had mine changed yesterday. With all the shifting this thing does with its 9 speed, I figured I’d treat it to a fluid change early. I also had the battery checked, and it tested good. It should be noted that the fluid c...

Re: 1965 Oldsmobile 442
Did the console already have accommodations for installing the gauge? WXO, Yes sir! There were three options for what goes in that spot from the factory, a tachometer, vacuum gauge, or a rocket emblem. I’ve completed the trifecta now, the 442 has had all three since I’ve owned it. There was no cust...

Vacuum Gauge Install
41,000 …. I found a sweet deal on Ebay on a factory vacuum gauge for the 442. For under $100 I got the gauge shipped to me and purchased the new vacuum hose and the brass fitting to connect the hose to the intake manifold. It took me a couple of hours to do the install, but when I was done it worked...

Re: 2018 GMC Terrain
51,493…. I have a bit of a vacation starting tomorrow, so I Kicked it off by doing a routine oil change. Mobil 1 and filter. Nothing crazy to report. I did use the air hose to blow out a bunch of small sand-like pebbles out of the engine compartment. Driving on roads that are perpetually under const...

Did you check the springs in the distributor? I think that if the springs are too weak,
you’ll be getting the detonation you’re hearing.

Transmission Mount Replace
40,540….On the last few rides, I started to notice a shudder when the car was put into reverse. The first couple of times I wrote it off to this being an old car, but on my last Sunday drive it became obvious that the issue was getting worse. I checked under the car and was able to move the trans up...

Re: 1965 Oldsmobile 442
40,248 … Last August I purchased a pile of 425 parts from a guy and part of the deal was a set of factory steel valve covers. I’ve been working on this project for a few months now, obviously! I wasn’t a fan of the PCV system that was incorrect for the car and I was hating on the cheap chrome valve ...

Remote fob battery replacement
49,502… I went to take the Terrain to work this morning and was greeted with a message on the dash telling me that the vehicle couldn’t detect the remote fob. It was in the center console. Hmmmm… I tried the cycle three times with the same result, so I hit the door locks buttons on the fob and the l...

Oil change / Chassis lube
40,219.. Today I did a routine oil change/chassis lube. 5 qts. 10w-40 and a new Napa 1049 oil filter. The oil was barely dirty, but I keep a pretty old school “once a year” plan going for this car. All of the grease fittings took a pump of grease. While I was checking stuff over, I wiggled the front...

Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette
Good thinkin', GM. I'll see if I can find a 10mm-1.5 bolt. Did you ever think you'd have to think of exhaust manifold studs in millimeters :? :( I’ve never been a fan of metric bolts on vehicles. At least your car has all metric bolts on it as opposed to the late 80’s when GM was converting over to...
