Re: 1979 Malibu
Yeah, I do need to wrap that. I'll do it when I swap the radiator. I also put an initial call in to a remote tuner to help me get some of the more advanced Megasquirt setup dialed in. As soon as I get the steering wheel done, I'll get it out on the street. New rear tires (with correct rotation!) 202...

Re: 1979 Malibu
After a couple missed attempts, I finally have a new crank sensor bracket, made from .26" aluminum. It should be much sturdier than the .125 steel, and probably lighter. 20240420_184400.jpg 20240420_221347.jpg Cut-N-Paste didn't have any gas for his TIG setup, so I threw a random post up in the...

April '24 Nyerges Poker Invitational
Chris held his monthly game last night and Team Tiresmoke was well represented. There were 2 tables, one with Fred, Andy, Gwen, and myself. Rhonda unfortunately was at the other table. Gwen was complaining about not getting any good cards, and when she finally did, guess who had better cards.. haha....

The bison have discovered rolling salt-licks. Thats pretty funny you've encountered that more than once.
We enjoyed driving in western South Dakota (Black Hills) when we went through there a few years ago. Thought it kinda felt like Pennsylvania.

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51
Well a couple steps forward, another step back. It now has a bad exhaust tick/leak, on the passenger side. The difficult side. I can see the rear-most bolt is missing. It's not easy getting in there, as I already made an attempt. Replacing that gasket and replacing the bolts is going to take some pa...

I like it! I think that engine is the same basic architecture as my Cobalt was. I think you got a great deal. Huge upgrade over the Corolla.

I was surprised by that too. Walts description of the wire hook kinda sounds like the way the rear bench seat bottoms are usually clipped in.

Re: 1979 Malibu
Small bits of progress over the weekend. The turn signals work! It was just a missing fuse in the fuse block. I still need to replace the lever. I dug out the wiper components that came with the car, only to find the wiper motor doesn't seem to work. Not sure if I need a switch, as the circuit testi...

Re: Climb a Mountain or Buy a Dodge?
The obvious solution is to go climb a mountain, in your Dodge.
Like maybe the Mount Washington Auto Road, in New Hampshire. https://mt-washington.com/
Gwen and I did it years ago on our motorcycles.

I've watched some of his current content on his Stay Tuned youtube channel. It's mildly entertaining.

Re: 1979 Malibu
I've been slowly working on a few things. Chris took my old crank-position-sensor bracket to work and they scanned it in. He got their CAD guy to fix up a few things, and we have now reproduced it in .260 aluminum. I'll be making a trip to Cut-N-Paste Welding this weekend to have it put together. 20...

Re: 1979 Malibu
Well, I am a glutton for punishment, so I'm giving it another shot! Maliboost is officially entered for Hot Rod Drag Week 2024, Sep 15-20. I'm entered in the Street Race Small Block Power Adder class. And this is the week after the Champcar Mid-Ohio race with the 944! September is gonna be busy! -Dave

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51
The bad news is I'm not seeing anything on my gas gauge. The other bad news is that I had trouble with the gas pump at Sunoco clicking off with anything but the absolute slowest pace. what the heck?? Good news -- I drove the car to Chardon over lunch and put 17 gallons without any issue and the gas...

Re: 1990 Corvette Z51
This was one of the the wires that got replaced after the Mid-Ohio fire. It's relatively new-ish. I should have enough stuff in inventory to make a proper replacement. Right now it's a too-long blue wire amongst a set of red wires. I'm looking forward to getting some miles on this thing in the sprin...
